Workshop
Prototyping & model making
Throughout my studies/work I have been drawn to physical model making; always looking at it as one of the most enjoyable and therapeutic parts to any architectural project I was undertaking. At both Universities I’ve studied at, I found myself spending a lot of time getting to know the workshops and machines within them. Each model presented a new set of challenges, but my interest in the process propelled me to problem solve and experiment, thus allowing me not only to improve with each iteration, but to develop a keen eye for detail and precision.
I have used a couple of different model making processes throughout my work, including using AutoCAD for laser cutting, SketchUp for 3D printing, and some more freehand sketching and machining for early stage conceptual models. Previous models I have made include materials such as wood, fibre board, concrete, plaster, 2mm card, and thermoformed plastic.
